Hey there! Lydia here. Welcome back to our She Knows Her Numbers Blog series!
This year, I really want to dive into the idea that you can understand your numbers. I thought the best way to show you this is to give you examples of real women business owners who are taking imperfect steps to know and understand their numbers.
This week, I’ll be featuring Shaela with Fierce Strength, Relentless Grace Co.! Fun fact, we’ve been friends since high school and now we meet weekly via Facetime to go over our power sheets goals and progress! She’s a gift and someone I couldn’t do life without. Her answers are incredibly helpful and practical, so let’s get right to it!
Without further ado, here is Shaela!
I am a Students Pastor’s wife and I recently just had our first child. His name is Everett Nash and he is the sweetest little kid on the planet. When I first found out I was pregnant last year I had also just launched my own company in January of 2019. My company exists to empower and equip women with her own unique fitness program. I believe that we can worship the Lord with what we eat and how we exercise, and I want others to understand that taking care of our bodies is a way to better glorify the Lord to where He can open up more opportunities for us to go and do for His kingdom.
What accounting system do you use?
Excel spreadsheets right now (I will be turning to quickbooks this year though as my business grows)
Do you consider yourself a natural numbers girl?
What are you doing to become more comfortable with your numbers?
I track EVERY LITTLE THING. I ask questions, I research, and I work through it regularly until they become easier to understand.
How often are you checking your numbers?
Have you outsourced this? Give your bookkeeper a shout out!
I have not
What’s your best advice for someone just starting out in regard to their money?
BUDGET. Create a budget for your business as if you were creating a budget for you home. Use a separate checking account to make it easier to track your expenses.
What’s your Starbucks order? (Just for fun!)
Changes with my mood, I prefer homemade coffee though by my husband 🙂
What report is most helpful for you to look at?
Profit & Loss
How do you stay organized?
I use a binder with all my business content in it. I’m old school and like paper and pen!
How do you make looking at your numbers more fun?
I daydream about what will happen when I make more profit, that makes it more fun, ha! But actually in general I love budgeting and tracking expenses, so it’s already fun when I get to sit down and do that.
