This year, I really want to dive into understanding your numbers. I thought the best way to show you this is to give you examples of real women business owners who are taking imperfect steps to know and understand their numbers.
This week, I’ll be featuring Brittney with Silver Leaf Office!
My name is Brittney and I live in Minnesota. I’m a virtual bookkeeper with a deep love for numbers. Nothing makes me happier than creative entrepreneurs smiling when they see how clean their books can be. When I’m not working you’ll usually find me reading, doing puzzles, or organizing something.
What accounting system do you use?
Do you consider yourself a natural numbers girl?
What are you doing to become more comfortable with your numbers?
Numbers come naturally for me, but there is always more to learn! To keep myself comfortable with my numbers I take time to reconcile my accounts each month. I look over my financial statements noting each expense to see if it is necessary for running my business. Finally, I compare the financial statement to the previous month so see if I’m meeting my financial goals.
How often are you checking your numbers?
I check them weekly and really dig into them monthly.
Have you outsourced this? Give your bookkeeper a shout out!
No plans to outsource. 🙂
What’s your best advice for someone just starting out in regard to their money?
Setup a separate bank account for your business. Do not mix your personal and business finances. Also, take time to setup a bookkeeping system. It’ll make your life easier later!!
What’s your starbucks order?
Evolution Fresh Organic Strawberry Lemonade!
What report is most helpful for you to look at?
Profit and Loss because it shows how much I’ve made and my expenses all in one place.
How do you stay organized?
QuickBooks Online and file folders
How do you make looking at your numbers more fun?
I’m weird and think it is fun! But if you don’t think it’s fun, try setting financial goals for yourself at the beginning of each month. Then at the end of the month check your numbers to see if you’ve hit your goals.
