Thoughts around the ‘day by day’

There are two things that I really really love to do when I get stressed or when I just need to refocus: listening to audio books and making lists. The past few weeks have been very stressful as a small business owner, student, wife etc. I think I’ve made more lists than I can count! But, I still wasn’t accomplishing as much as I was hoping that I would!

I’ve known about the book Cultivate for a while now. Lara Casey wrote it and she is the founder of Cultivate What Matters and the creator of the PowerSheets. I’ve used these before, but they didn’t work and I didn’t know why. After listening through this book, I knew.

I wasn’t believing in the day by day. I wasn’t focused on daily progress, all I could think about is the end result.

The biggest take-away that I had from Lara’s book was that I need to ‘cultivate what matters’ each and every day. To me, that means working a little bit on my big goals every day. Worry less about making everything perfect, but just making progress. Work hard every day. Believe that the little progress made every day builds up to something great.

I was talking to a friend about this the other day, and she had recently been convicted about this  as well. She brought up Matthew 6:31-34.

Matthew 6:31-34 31So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Don’t worry about tomorrow, friends. Work hard today. Make progress today. Make memories today. Focus on today. After all, we aren’t promised tomorrow.
