I have a confession to make. While I’m typing this blog post, I am in my pajamas, which is not professional wear! But, it is Saturday morning and I am working so I feel a little justified. 🙂

This is the third of ten tips that I have for working from home. Tip No. 3 is to Keep a Dress Code. Write it down in your company’s manual. Know what you expect of yourself everyday as you continue to build your business!

If you are a solo-preneur right now, this can be difficult because there is no one that you are seeing every day working with or setting an example for. That is where I’m at right now. No employees, just me, but thankfully, I go and see clients almost every day.

I started implementing this right from the beginning of my business (except on Saturday’s). When I told fellow business owners that I was going out on my own the consistent piece of advice that I got was to get dressed every morning like you’re going to a job. Hair and makeup done. Shoes and everything. The days that I do this, I find that I am much more productive! It also makes it easier to change plans. If I have a client call that I need to go see that day it’s not a huge interruption.

One thing that I’ve done to simplify my dress code is to create a capsule wardrobe. Basically you have 10-20 pieces that you can mix and match. I did this last fall and I loved not having to stress about matching items or making sure that I had one thing clean to match a certain skirt. Below is an example of a capsule wardrobe that I love for Spring!

If you are interested in creating a capsule wardrobe on a budget, I would first look at your closet and see what you have then buy a few pieces to help mix and match more items. If you have a few pieces to buy, check places like Target first to see if they have something inexpensive that can work for a season! If you click the link below and purchase, you can get free shipping!

Do you have a capsule wardrobe that you’ve created? Let me know in the comments, I love hearing from you!
